United Way of Linn County has added two new board members to its ranks. We are pleased to announce that Dave Furtwangler and Tammy Reeves have chosen to take part in leading United Way to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.
Dave Furtwangler of Cascade Timber Consulting has been a long time supporter of United Way and a local community leader in Sweet Home. He is determined to help United Way kick up support and get more involved in East Linn County!
Tammy Reeves of Northwest Community Credit Union comes to us excited and eager to inspire hope and create opportunites for a better tomorrow. Her banking background will be a great asset to the Funds Distribution process and overview of financial documents.
Donna Young, a local community volunteer, has set up a way for you to give on-line by playing video games. Madebig.com offers hundreds of computer games that you can play including, soduko, solitare, hearts, crossword, jigsaw puzzles, mini-golf and pool.
When you login and play these games you can earn tokens. For every 25 tokens you earn you can make a pledge to United Way. Once the website has collected 100,000 tokens, Madebig.com will mail United Way a check for $1,000. Check the current progress of United Way of Linn County, play games and make a pledge yourself!
Agency Spotlight -- Volunteer Caregivers
Again in 2009 Volunteer Caregivers will have the "Share Your Heart" for Valentines Day fundraiser. This was a rewarding program for all in 2008. You will be supporting seniors in your community by a donation of $10.00 or more, each $10 will purchase a flower to be delivered to a senior of your choice or one from our list.
The gesture lets a local senior know that you care about them and each purchase will have an entry for a drawing providing a getaway weekend for two.
Orders should be placed by February 6th and delivery will start no later than February 13 with all being completed by the 14th. The flowers this year will be carnations with baby's breath and either in a vase or a sleeve tied with a bow.
Volunteer Caregivers is a non-profit, church and community sponsored coalition of volunteers. Their purpose is to enable lower income frail elderly and/or disabled persons to remain in their homes and to maintain independence and dignity.
