Altrussa KidzShop Needs More Volunteers Saturday August 14th
United Way promotes good things happening in our community and here is one of them! If you have the time to help local kids in our community, here is a great opportunity!
Altrusa of Albany will be holding it’s annual event called KidzShop. Your help is needed. 300 low income school children will be participating in an event that allows them to shop for new clothes & shoes. The children cannot shop with their parents and therefore volunteers over the age of 18 are needed. Won’t you consider spending a few hours on August 14th to take a child shopping?
Here’s how it works - you are paired with a child, you have a predetermined dollar amount to spend at assigned stores. You help them select appropriate clothing, you escort them to the fitting room, you go to the cashier who will have a gift card for each child, you continue onto the next store if necessary for shoes. Once your budget has been met, you take them to pick out a new backpack with school supplies.
The smiles on these children's faces for the opportunity to go to school with new clothes, shoes, and supplies that they wouldn't ordinarily have, make this event truly heart-warming. If anyone can spare a couple hours early morning on August 14th to help a child, please fill out the volunteer form attached and return to Mary Harer, KidzShop Volunteer Coordinator by e-mail or phone: 541-979-7700.
